Medical editor wanted to join PLoS Medicine

Since its launch PLoS Medicine has had a stable core of professional editors, which we have gradually added to as the journal expanded. However, Barbara Cohen, one of our original editors, is sadly leaving us at the end of August – to travel the world – and so we are looking for a new editor to join the team. We’re looking for someone with experience in the editorial handling and peer review of research papers, but there are also opportunities to get involved in other parts of the journal. You’ll also need to be good at writing anything from editorials to press releases to short blurbs about papers. Oh, and you’ll need to be passionate about Open Access. If you’re interested see our job ad for further information.

Discussion
  1. Yes, it’s true, I am leaving. I look forward to being – at least temporarily – a vagabond, but leaving PLoS isn’t easy. Working here has been the best job I have had, with the most intelligent, creative, and committed group of colleagues, and an amazingly interesting and diverse group of supporters in the scientific and health community. Actually, rather than a job, my time at PLoS has been a series of opportunities to learn and to interact with exceptional individuals.

    In light of recent events in my personal life, though, I decided to take time off and spend it with friends and family in various parts of the world.

    I would be happy to talk to anybody who is interested in joining the PLoS Medicine team, and to anybody who has experience in sailing around the world.

  2. Dear Barbara Cohen,

    I have long been interested in Research, Publication and Peer Review !!! I’ve been involved with different medical student journals like Student BMJ, MJM, JYI and others. Recently I have been involved with Journal of Nepal Medical Association (JNMA), the official journal of Nepal Medical Association (http://www.jnma.com.np/jnma/index.php?journal=jnma&page=about&op=editorialTeam}
    It is one of few medline indexed medical journal from Nepal.

    I have been doing my final year Internship/Apprenticeship here in Nepal. It is a mandatory rotation in different departments after completion of exam but still an essential and undergraduate training! It is one year in Nepal and I have just started it. It is just to clarify my position. I have long been interested with PLoS medicine’s mission and would like to contribute here in anyway possible. As I came to know that there is possibility to be involved from your post here, I have been writing this response.

    I would like to hear from you and contribute the journal in anyway. I hope you will respond me.

    Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Best of luck for your mission,

    Best wishes,
    mati
