Exciting times ahead for Bora
Life has been moving at break neck speed over the past few weeks (situation normal for PLoS!). PLoS Currents and Blogs have been launched and now it’s time to reveal another piece of news, which we do with a mixture of sadness and pleasure.
Bora Zivkovic, our Online Discussion Expert for more than three years, is now Blog and Community Editor at Scientific American in New York (he will continue to be based in Chapel Hill).
He will be working with the Scientific American editors and staff in conceptualizing, building, launching and then running a new science blogging network – they currently have six blogs. His ever popular Blog Around the Clock will either move there or he will start a new site on that network.
Naturally, we’re delighted for Bora who said this about working with us:
This was a hard decision to make – working at PLoS was a fantastic experience, it opened so many other doors for me, and the office is full of great people that I am happy to call my friends. I want to thank everyone there for a great time, for giving me all the opportunities, and for educating me about nuances of Open Access publishing (of course I will remain an OA evangelist!).
I have had the pleasure of working directly with Bora during his time with us and have learned a great deal from him. I always knew that our relationship would be unique from the moment I first learned of his application for the role, which was delivered by blog post (of course!) following recommendations from the community. Even my initial phone interview with him was conducted between flights at a noisy airport – none the less, I recall being bowled over by his charm, friendliness and breadth of knowledge.
I know that all of us at PLoS and those in our wider community, many of whom we count as our friends because of Bora, will join me in wishing him every success.
