Introducing The Student Column, and Science Upstream
Today, we are happy to announce a brand new column on our growing site PLoS Blogs. Recognizing the importance of supporting our next generation of science writers, we are launching a Student Column on our Blog site. Much like our extremely popular Guest Blog, the Student Column will feature prominent voices from promising young writers across the globe.
The inaugural section will be called Science, Upstream, and will be independently driven by two outstanding journalism students from Stanford University, Jamie Hansen and Julia James. In conjunction with science writer and lecturer Thomas Hayden, Jamie and Julia will be conducting an interesting experiment in science journalism – embedding themselves in a research group for a few months. Instead of waiting until the group publishes final results, they will instead be reporting “upstream” in the scientific process, writing on the early issues researchers face as well as the personalities involved.
For a better idea of what they’ll be up to, check out Tom Hayden’s Guest Post, and Jamie and Julia’s first installment on Science, Upstream.
