Standardisation is key to creating compatible modules, which in turn allows abstraction and the generation of more complex devices with interesting phenotypes. As I’ve mentioned previously a common cloning syntax for plant synbio was published by a large, though European dominated, group of researchers last year. Such an effort cannot be enforced, individuals must elect to use it because they can see the benefit.
